Hotels in Spain
Spain has become something of a golfers paradise in recent years, the Costa del Sol has always taken lead up until now as Europe's golf capital, however now Spain's other regions have been taken over by "golf fever". Spain has over 100 golf courses in total (50 on the Costa del Sol) and each is designed and kept in superb condition all year round.
The Costa del Sol is still Europe's leading golfers "Hot Spot" party due to the quality and choice of golf courses and Accommodation, but most certainly due to it's mild year round climate, which allows golfers to play at any time of the year. Winter does not really start here until late December, from this time until late Febuary it can become a bit colder and the risk of rain is there, but come for a week and you are sure of at least a couple of sunny days in which to enjoy your Sport.

The Costa del Sol is a very diverse place, a mixture of the ultra modern and the traditional, of bustling resorts to quite country locations, for the more adventurous traveller the Costa del Sol is a crammed with a mixture of different experiences and cultures, it's people being as diverse as the region.
This "diversity" however, means that Costa del Sol has something to offer almost all types of holiday maker, it can satisfy the many different "tastes" that people may have.

The resorts here are each very different and where you stay can have a dramatic effect on how you enjoy your holiday here, plus the experiences you have. The Costa del Sol runs from Nerja to the West of Malaga, to Tarifa in the far east, the entire region is part of Andalucia, the largest province in Spain. The Costa del Sol literally means "The Coast of the Sun" and Andalucia (derived from Latin) means "The land of light".
Without doubt the more popular area with tourists and indeed for golf is the stretch of the Costa del Sol that runs from Malaga airport to Estepona, maybe made more popular due to it's ease of access from the Airport, with superb road and rail links.

Costal Resorts:

Malaga:
The capital city of the Costa del Sol, a busy bustling city with a wide culture mix. Like any city is has a mix of good and bad areas, however the crime rate here is much lower than in other parts of Europe. Malaga is superb for dining out and has some of the top restaurants in Spain. It's also becoming popular for it's nightlife in recent times. It's one of those Cities where a different experience lays around every corner and it rarely sleeps, you would be forgiven for thinking nobody ever goes to bed in Malaga! Of course Malaga is also the arrival place of many tourist landing in it's international airport.
Torremolinos: This was the first holiday resort constructed on the Costa del Sol, it's one of those places you either love or hate. In recent years it has had a major facelift, it still possess a little of it's 1970's "holiday tack" but has now become popular as a trendy night-spot. There are more hotels here than the rest of the Costa del Sol put together, however this means good value accommodation can be had, except maybe in the height of summer. Torremolinos also has a large gay community, the "pink pound" adding to it's recent modernisation and reclaimed popularity.

Benalmadena:
A modern and Vibrant resort area with a lot of good quality accommodation to be had.
Very Popular with British tourists and has a very large "Expat" community from the UK.
This does mean it has lost a little of it's Spanish culture, however it means that English are well catered for here. There are many English Cafes, restaurants and shops selling UK products, you are rarely likely to become stuck due to language as even the Spanish here often speak English too. Benalmadena however remains a good "all round" holiday destination, it boasts many activities such as our Diving School, Water Sports and has easy access to Golf courses in the Area.

Fuengirola / Mijas Costa: Fuengirola and Mijas Costa are part of the stretch of coast that runs down almost to Marbella. A mixture of Holiday resort and working town, they preserve more of the Spanish culture and way of life than some of the other resorts here. This area is also very popular with golfers, just a little inland are some of the Costa del Sol's best golf courses, including Mijas Golf, El Chaperral and Miraflores. There is still a big presence of British "Expats" here and English are catered for well (There is even and Iceland supermarket here), but it does not seem to have affected the "Spanish way of life" much at all.

Marbella / Puerto Banus: The Costa del Sol's premium resorts, as popular with "The jet set" as with the everyday tourist. This is the Costa del Sol's number one area with tourists and those who require a little more pampering along the way, crammed full of designer shops, Quality restaurants, top entertainment and nightlife for all types. Marbella and Puerto Banus add a touch of class, without destroying culture and diversity, this area effortlessly caters for all kinds, it is somewhat cosmopolitan without being "brash". Golfers can enjoy some world class courses in this region, including the popular Marbella Golf and Country Club.

The Costa del Sol can be accessed very cheaply from most parts of Europe and the UK, many low cost airlines now fly to Malaga Airport for very reasonable rates, from the UK a typical flight is just 2.5 hours. This short flight time and low air fairs have added to the general popularity of the Costa del Sol for both tourists and those seeking a home in the sun within easy reach of family back home... However the Costa del Sol attracts golfers from all over the globe, it is becoming as popular with American golfers, as it is with the British and Europeans. It has been said that any "true golfer" must at some time play on "the Costa", why not give it a try yourself this year?
